Today we are going to write about famous, popular, well reputed, brilliant and talented fashion designer Deepak Perwani.
Selection of words is very difficult to represent such a great personality in the fashion industry of Pakistan. The deconstruction of the sherwani made him the top men’s wear designer in the country. He was barely 3 months old in fashion when this accolade was given to him by a national newspaper. Deepak Perwani has not looked back since then, having been called the bad boy of Pakistani fashion many a times.

He went ahead to launch his women’s wear line in 1996, with the opening of his flagship store in Zamzama. Deepak Perwani does 4 lines a year pret and couture for both men and women. He’s not a conformist to the east per say and draws inspiration from everything that is the past present and the future.
His forward thinking and modern approach to design has taken the Pakistani man and woman into the 21st century. His philosophy and astute sense of design has made him a fashion icon and his fashion house a source of inspiration for designers in Pakistan and abroad. Minimal embellishment and a total fusion between the east and the west makes him one of the foremost designers in the country.

The World’s largest Kurta – Guinness Book of World Records
The most interesting and noteworthy achievement in the part of Fashion designer Deepak Parwani, which makes him prominent from all other Fashion designers is his entry into the "Guinness Book of World Records". Yes, the innovations of the Fashion designer Deepak Parwani have reached up-to that position, he created "The World’s largest Kurta" of 101 feet tall and 59 feet 3 inches wide in 2007.
The Kurta made by Fashion designer Deepak Parwani with the help of a team of 50 hardworking professional tailors within a time period of 30 days, weighs 800 kg and is large enough to be worn by a 175-foot tall person. The world’s largest Kurta is made-up of 800 yards of cotton blend fabric.
According to Fashion designer Deepak Perwani, “The kurta is an intrinsic symbol of Pakistani attire, and (this garment) has successfully put it on the global map. A kurta represents the essence of what we are and defines our individuality in today’s world.”
Fashion designer Deepak Parwani‘s Kurta aims to give inspiration for others to make smaller Kurtas like this, according to the Pakistani cultural context. The earnings he’ll get by this will be donated to the Pakistani children’s NGO, Edhi Foundation.
Deepak Perwani Career
At 23 he was chosen to be the brand ambassador for the World Gold Council and later for Dupont Lycra. He did the launch show of ABN Amro Bank in Pakistan and after that went ahead to do collaborations with Mercedes Benz, Benson & Hedges, and Hugo Boss perfume to name a few.
At 28 he was chosen on to the board of governors of the Pakistan school of fashion design (P.S.F.D) affiliated with LA CHAMBRE SYNICALE DE LA COUTURE
PARISENNE. He also won the prestigious Lux Style Award for men’s wear and the Indus Style Guru Award, the same year.
Lately he has been chosen as Pakistan’s Cultural Ambassador to China and Malaysia, and traveled with President Musharraf to the World Economic Forum Conference to China.
He represented Pakistan at the Royal Albert Hall in London and went ahead to be the first Pakistani to do a fashion week, (KLFAW) Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week.
At 30 Mr. Perwani won his second Lux Style Award, opened his flagship store in Lahore, and the label Deepak Perwani went international to be stocked in London, New York, Dallas, Dubai and Singapore.
He did the Castle India Men’s Fashion Week (CIMFF) and was quoted as the pride of Pakistan by the TIMES of India. later that year he went ahead to represent Pakistan at the first ever Islamic Fashion Week in Malaysia initiated by her highness the Queen of Malaysia, Lady Prime Minister and Prime Minister Suharto’s daughter of Indonesia.
This year he was chosen on the board of governors of Pakistan Fashion Council and visited Delhi to sign a memorandum of understanding between Fashion Pakistan Council and the Fashion Design Council of India thus making history as it is the first understanding of its kind between India and Pakistan’s bilateral trade. He is also a member of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA)
At 33 this year he won his 3rd Lux Style Award for achievement in men’s wear design the best dressed celebrity on the red carpet and then went ahead to represent Pakistan for the 60th year of independence parade organized by the High Commission of Pakistan at Trafalgar Square in London.
This year Mr. Perwani is the originator of the first Islamic fashion week held in Malaysia and later Dubai, under the patronage of sheikh al makdoom al nayan to promote Pakistan and Pakistani attire.
Mr. Perwani is currently working on the AHAN project under SMEDA, to support 180 women under the aik hunar aik nagar project in mirpurkhas, sukkur , mithi , ambh and mirpur sakro to elliviate poverty and help the poor women of sindh. His collection was recently shown at the Pakistani high commission in London under the patronage of the out going ambassador dr. maliha lodhi.
